NEW YORK CITY MOVE

THE MOMENT I STEPPED IT OFF THE SUBWAY EVERY OUNCE OF FEELING AT HOME FILLED MY CUP

I was in town for 3 days in October of 2023 on the terrace of Le Bonne Soupe (55 W 45th, Midtown) when the bar manager, Fatih approached my make-shift creative space, fascinated. He got off work and joined me for 2 hours where we connected on the manifestation of following our dreams in New York City. Fatih is from Turkey; he picked up everything and moved to the city for a new life. Inspired, I began to question what it would take to make my move.

One year later, Fatih calls me to tell me he is getting married, and he wants to fly me out to the city for a Central Park engagement shoot! Without hesitation, I book a ticket and embark on one of the most life changing experiences of my whole life.

Dallas was pretty hard for me. Friends rarely called; I had a few cornerstone people like Red and DEEPNTHCUT who I miss immensely, no doubt, but New York began knocking on my door with such an alluring pull, I could not ignore my inhibitions to change my life.

Fatih brought 5 of his friends to the photo shoot in Central Park who all became close to me than all of my people in dallas (minus my closest circle who is with me always, and if you’re reading this, you’re a part of it).

I was staying at a hostile and made double digit amount of friends; I could not ignore any longer, this is where I belong.

Every one of my family members said I shouldn’t go, I shouldn’t follow my dreams, it’s too expensive. They didn’t realize how valuable I am in context of the greatest city in the world. This sounds harsh, but I see it as the tough love catalyst that sent me through the lone star state door for the last time.

I began to meditate on the master plan:

Lock down work
Lock down a place to live
Book a one way flight
Spark a network
Get closure with all of my broken relationships

This list got shorter and shorter as I began to manifest my dreams.

Step 1: I decided, instead of applying to jobs, I’d be the boss. I put out a job listing for a booking director on indeed and hired the lovely, Agent Elva!

She has been the key to my success so far.

Step 2: Elva connected me to the 57 group which is a community of creatives and lovers of the city. There was a message about a sublease opportunity for 2 weeks starting the day I had my flight booked! When I say magic, this place was glowing in it. I hadn’t locked down a permanent lease yet, so by the grace of God, I bought some time.

Here I was in the city, grounded in my decisions, living in a penthouse ambitiously pursuing my next chapter.

I threw everything up in the air; and I landed.

We are the nurturers. She is not done with creation
